The Work of the Society pt. 1

The Seventh Day Baptist (SDB) Missionary Society in existence since 1842, exists as the “Missionary Branch” of the SDB community in the United States and Canada. As an independent agency, the Society endeavors to serve SDBs in North America and worldwide.

With nineteen board members and three paid employees, the Society operates out of Rhode Island, USA, and we go about our work in two ways: Firstly, we respond to needs and opportunities presented by people in our conference or from around the globe. In this “reactive” work, we hear from individuals, churches, associations, or other SDB groups who sense a calling toward a particular mission or project. With God’s leading, we then determine if and how we can assist, coordinate, or support that project. These projects may be local, national, or international in scope.

Secondly, we prayerfully consider where and how God is moving in any given type of work or geographic area, and explore how we can join in that work.  In this “proactive” part of the work, we look at the big picture and attempt to lead the SDB General Conference into new fields, missions, and areas of ministry.  Our goal is to be globally aware, educated, and sensitive to the Holy Spirit as we seek opportunities.

Resources for these projects are from the SDB Missionary Society supplemented by the SDB community.

The Society continues to crave prayers and support as we serve you in helping to spread the Good News.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19-20
