Please join the Burundi SDB Conference in a week of prayers on May 5th -10th, 2013 as they seek God’s guidance, provisions and protection, in response to unjustified persecution. They will also be praying that God will change the hearts of their persecutors.
The Republic of Burundi, with a population of approximately 10 million people, is wedged between Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Rwanda in east-central Africa. They have freedom of religion but religious groups must register and maintain a headquarters within the country. The Burundi SDB Conference has 47 churches (as of May 2012) and is a member of SDB World Federation.
The government and the rebel group forces in Burundi signed a cease-fire in May 2008, signaling finality in the 15-year civil war that claimed some 300,000 lives, However persecution remains!
Pastor Gilbert Nduwayo, the General Secretary of the Conference, has been arrested on what are clearly false charges. He is currently out of jail, but is being pressured to pay a large sum of money not to be re-imprisoned. It is also believed that there is a plan to kill him and others of the church.
May God’s will be done and hearts changed as His people pray.
Gilbert Nduwayo, Burundi Conference Leader
