The total number of cases in the West African Ebola epidemic reported up to October 5th, 2014 is 8033 with 3879 deaths, concentrated in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone (http://www.who.int/csr/disease/ebola/situation-reports/en/).
Ebola is a deadly disease, caused by infection with one of the Ebola virus strains and is spread via body fluids. It presents with high fever and bleeding tendencies. This virus has a present fatality rate of 70%.
SDBs in West Africa are among those battling Ebola – SDB Pastor in Sierra Leone wrote:
“…It is only by the Grace of God Almighty that I am alive…Pastor Emmanuel Gbondon was affected by Ebola, and that lead to his death…we have also lost some other members…Ebola is very serious and we really need assistance…we need buckets, chlorine, soaps and detol…” (Pastor Francis Mattia, Sept 23, 2014)
